Do you love the process?
If you're only fixated on the outcome, you're missing the mark. If you do all this work and don't get the outcome you want, it wasn't a waste. You had fun during the prep, you learned a bunch, and you got through some adversity along the way.
The outcome will be the outcome. But if you can truly fall in love with the process, then you never lose. Eventually, you will get what you earned.
