Everyone has an excuse.
When I first started going to Westside Barbell, I needed a job so I could support living by myself in Ohio.
So I went to work construction with Jason Coker.
If you know Coker, you know he's a workhorse inside and outside of the gym. We were working 60–70 hours a week. Up and down ladders. Flooring. All kinds of stuff.
During that same period in my life I:
- Squatted 1,000 pounds for the first time
- Squatted 1,030 pounds for the first time
- Got on the board at Westside for the first time
How? I ate. I slept. I took my training seriously. And when I was tired, I still did those things.
You're not always going to feel good
Everybody has something they can complain about. There's always an excuse.
Your job is physical, you worked late, you're tired, or your training isn't fitting perfectly into your schedule.
But guess what? No one cares. Sometimes that's just life.
Sometimes you have to work when you're tired. Sometimes you have to train when you're uncomfortable. Sometimes you have to take care of your food and sleep when it would be easier not to.
The question is: How bad do you want it?
Because if you want to do the cool shit, you have to be willing to do what other people aren't willing to do.
It's easy to find an excuse if you're looking for one. Don't be one of those people.
